Age Discrimination
In Massachusetts individuals who are 40 years of age or older are protected from employment discrimination based on age by both state and federal law. These protections apply to both employees and job applicants. It is unlawful to discriminate against a person because of his/her age with respect to any term, condition, or privilege of employment including, but not limited to, hiring, firing, promotion, demotion, layoff, compensation, benefits, job assignments, and training. By law there are very short time periods (statutes of limitations) for bringing a claim for age discrimination. If you feel that you have been discriminated against on the basis of age in your job, you should contact a lawyer as soon as possible to protect any rights you have.
